Particle cycling rates at Station P as estimated from the inversion of POC concentration data

چکیده
Particle cycling rates in marine systems are difficult to measure directly, but of great interest understanding how carbon and other elements distributed throughout the ocean. Here, particle production, aggregation, disaggregation, sinking, remineralization, transport mediated by zooplankton diel vertical migration were estimated from size-fractionated measurements particulate organic (POC) concentration collected during NASA EXport Processes Ocean RemoTe Sensing (EXPORTS) cruise at Station P summer 2018. POC data combined with a model using an inverse method. Our estimates total settling flux water column consistent those derived thorium-234 disequilibrium sediment traps. A budget for two size fractions, small (1–51 µm) large (> 51 µm), was produced both euphotic zone (0–100 m) upper mesopelagic (100–500 m). We that export base 2.2 ± 0.8 mmol m−2 d−1, particles contributed considerably along column. The results indicated 500 m, remineralization leads larger loss than does whereas disaggregation remineralization. Of processes explicitly represented model, is source convergence due sinking. Positive residuals reveal even unidentified zone. Overall, our posterior rate constants do not deviate much values reported literature, i.e., largely prior given their uncertainties. should provide useful framework interpretation process-specific observations obtained various research groups EXPORTS. Applying method could insight into different biogeochemical affect

Chlorophyll Concentration Estimated from Irradiance Measurements at Fluctuating Depths
Variations in the spectral shape of underwater irradiance at a fixed depth can be used to describe changes in water column constituents, such as chlorophyll concentration. However, random fluctuations of the depth of the monitoring sensor, caused by current variations, makes interpretation more challenging. Even in homogeneous water, the spectral underwater light field varies with depth because...
متن کاملPacific as Estimated from Transosonde Data
The magnitude of analysis errors over the r~orthc~:rstcrn Pacific a t 300 and 250 rnh. is estimated by means of winds and geostrophic TTinds derived from opvrational trunsosonde flights from Japan. The results suggest that the ratio of vect,or gcostrophie wind error and geostrophic willd varivs from 0.15 near the west coast of North America t o 0.40 in thc Sorth-Central Pacific.
Constrained inversion of P-S seismic data
A method to estimate S-wave interval velocity, using P-S seismic data is presented. The method is composed of three steps. First, the P-S data are converted to a relative change in S-velocity section. The section is then linearized. Constrained inversion is used to convert this last section to S-interval velocity. To illustrate the method, the S velocity of a field data set was derived, and a V...
